Build v1.26 Released!

Build 1.26 is the first major build we're releasing to the public here on Itch.io. The game has hit a major milestone where we feel that our core mechanics and gameplay are clear and we're ready to receive feedback from playtesters! Below is a comprehensive list of new features and bug fixes that took place since the last major internal build. We hope that this helps anyone curious about the development process to better understand the improvements made to the game as we continue work and begin to add new playable builds.
- New/Improved Features:
- There is now art in the menu and level select screen
- The Oni can now be damaged
- The 1st attack in the player’s combo is stronger than the 2nd
- Remastered track #1
- Remastered track #2
- A sound plays when the player respawns
- Balanced sfx to give blood fx, footsteps, and combat fx more prominence
- The 2nd attack in the player’s combo now plays a sound
- Enemy parrying has improved to prevent stunlocking
- Blood fx now spawn when enemies are hit that stains the environment
- Enemies now die when they fall off of platforms
- Enemies get knocked back when parried by the player
- Enemies now wait for the player to enter their level before engaging
- The level now resets player and enemy positions and health upon reload
- The player’s dash attack now plays a sound effect
- The player is now locked into a level until they kill all enemies
- The follow cam now stops at level barriers
- The main menu now plays music
- The trains in level 12 now move side to side
- Tuned the player’s combo attack, dash attack, and parry damage and timing against the Wounded Samurai
- The menu button now plays a sound when clicked
- Added environment art to all levels with small exceptions
- Added health bars to Wounded Samurai enemies
- Bug Fixes:
- Removed the back button in the level select screen, eliminating the issue where music would reset.
- Music now properly resets when exiting the game from the pause menu
- The dash attack now commits to the direction the player dashes in
- The main music now stops when entering a level
- Boss music now fades-in as intended
- The player can now respawn on all levels
- Resolved issue where the camera did not follow the player if they died on level 6
- The dash attack now functions in all intended directions
- The Oni can no longer one-shot the player (at full health)
- The player does not flicker in levels utilizing the follow cam
- Performing a dash attack into a wall no longer gets players stuck
- Music no longer duplicates when entering, exiting, and reentering the game in a single session
- Jumping down through platforms no longer resets the music
- Passing NPC’s no longer slows their movement
- The Wounded Samurai no longer attacks before in-range of the player
- The player can no longer move during their 2nd primary attack
- Holding the down key and jumping no longer plays a sound effect if there is no ground to jump through
